It’s happening, alright. YouTube is now available on Amazon Fire TV devices. Additionally, Prime Video is now available on Google Chromecast and Android TVs. Although details about what prompted the truce or what took them so long to get to it are scarce, it’s nice to see Google and Amazon – finally - putting customer satisfaction above their long-running standoff.

The feud between Google and Amazon has kept the native YouTube app off Amazon’s Fire TV devices for well over a year – Chromecast and many Android TV users (with the exception of a few partner devices) similarly couldn’t access Prime Video all this while. Until now, that is. Both the parties had announced in April, that a settlement had seemingly been reached prompting the arrival of YouTube on Fire TV devices, and Prime Video on Google Chromecast and Android TVs in the coming months.

Starting today, the official YouTube app is available in India on Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick 4K. While internationally, it can also be accessed on devices like the “Fire TV Cube, Fire TV Stick Basic Edition, and Toshiba, Insignia, Element, and Westinghouse Fire TV Edition smart TVs.” Additional support for YouTube TV and YouTube Kids will be coming to these devices later this year. Being an official app means, users will be able to access Alexa from within the app itself, to "find, launch, and control content (pause, play, rewind, fast-forward) using their voice."

Google’s Chromecast streaming dongle is similarly getting native Amazon Prime Video integration – Prime Video will be also available universally on Android TVs.

Interestingly, the joint agreement does not mention the Echo Show and the recently launched Echo Show 5 which seems to suggest that it will be some more time before Amazon’s smart display gets native YouTube support. This means users of the Echo Show will have to make do with the built-in web browser to access YouTube until further announcement.
